National Taco Day Brings Free Tacos and New Menu Items to Boston

If you needed an excuse to eat more tacos this week, National Taco Day has arrived right on time. On Tuesday, Oct. 7, several Boston-area restaurants are celebrating with limited-time menu launches, free taco giveaways and taco-centric specials that stretch from Back Bay to the suburbs.

Leading the charge is Anna’s Taqueria, which is rolling out new menu items inspired by the season. Beginning Oct. 6, customers can order a new chicken tinga taco, featuring slow-simmered shredded chicken in a smoky tomato-chipotle-adobo sauce topped with red onion, queso fresco and cilantro on warm corn tortillas. The chicken tinga will also be available as a protein option in burritos and bowls.

The local chain is also introducing a Mango Passion Fruit Agua Fresca, replacing its summertime Watermelon Agua Fresca with a tropical blend of mango, passion fruit, fresh lime juice and a touch of salt. The taco costs $4.55, while the seasonal drink ranges from $3.50 to $5.50.

Anna’s is adding a little fan participation, too. Starting on National Taco Day, customers can submit ideas for a future taco special, with the winning suggestion earning free tacos for a year.

Looking for something with a seafood twist? Joe’s on Newbury and Joe’s Waterfront are serving up Baja fish tacos made with crispy cod, chipotle slaw, pico de gallo and sriracha aioli, alongside rice and beans. Whether you’re strolling Newbury Street or taking in harbor views, the taco special offers a New England spin on the classic favorite.

Meanwhile, Margaritas Mexican Restaurant is giving rewards members a reason to stop by between 3 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 7. Members of the restaurant’s Circle of Friends rewards program can score a free taco, choosing from ground beef, chicken or carnitas served in hard or soft shells. Not signed up yet? Enrollment is free through the restaurant’s app and website.

The giveaway is part of Margaritas’ annual TacOctoberfest celebration, which also includes $4 Taco Tuesday specials throughout the day, Taco Gigante challenges and seasonal food-and-drink pairings. Participating local locations include Framingham, Revere and Waltham.
