College GameDay Moves Indoors as Alabama Hosts Georgia in SEC Showdown

ESPN’s “College GameDay” previously announced it would head to the Alabama Crimson Tide versus Georgia Bulldogs game on Oct. 10. However, projected inclement weather from Hurricane Isaias has forced the show to move indoors to the Coleman Coliseum, which is Alabama’s basketball arena. “Due to expected inclement weather, College GameDay will originate from inside the Coleman Coliseum on Alabama’s campus on Saturday morning,” GameDay announced via social media. “The doors will open at 5:30 a. m. CT and the show will begin at 8 a. m. CT. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you indoors! “

Last week, ESPN‘s College GameDay took a break from the SEC to focus on a marquee Big Ten matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Iowa Hawkeyes. This week, though, it’ll be back to SEC action for a matchup that should have significant College Football Playoff (CFP) implications. Sixth-ranked Alabama is set to host second-ranked Georgia in one of the biggest matchups of the college football season to date. College GameDay will be in Tuscaloosa during the day to help set the stage.

Saturday’s matchup should be one of the top college games of the season and is arguably the most anticipated since Lane Kiffin and LSU visited Mississippi in Week 3. The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide each carry a 5-0 record into the game, along with the look of legitimate title contenders. Georgia’s offense ranks first in the nation in scoring, with an average of 51. 4 points. Led by quarterback Gunner Stockton, running back Nate Frazier, and a bevy of difference-makers, the Bulldogs have regularly raced up and down the field in the early season. Defensively, Georgia is no slouch either. The Bulldogs have surrendered an average of only 13. 4 points this season.

While the Bulldogs might be the most complete team in college football right now, Alabama is a dangerous and familiar foe. The Crimson Tide rank second in scoring (49. 6 points per game) and have surrendered just 20. 8 points per game. Kalen DeBoer’s squad will also have a massive home-field advantage. Of course, it’s unclear what sort of environment Georgia and Alabama will see on Saturday, if they face off as scheduled. Adverse weather conditions resulting from Hurricane Isaias could impact the game, though both sides are preparing as normal.

“It’s uncertainty. [It’s] beyond my control,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said, per Jordan D. Hill of 247Sports. “We as coaches game plan for multiple situations—weather conditions—when they’re there. We had that same prep last week with the threat of those things. Doesn’t change a lot about practice. ” Georgia won convincingly when these two teams last faced, claiming a 28-7 victory in last year’s SEC Championship Game. However, the Crimson Tide have won both regular-season meetings since DeBoer took over in 2024.

GameDay originally planned to be outside, but high winds and heavy rain are expected to affect the area during the course of the show. The worst of the weather should be gone before the 7:30 p. m. ET kickoff between Georgia and Alabama. Saturday will mark the 13th time GameDay has attended a Georgia-Alabama game. GameDay has attended no other matchup more frequently, although it has also gone to Ohio State-Penn State and Alabama-LSU games 13 times each. Last year, GameDay attended the Georgia’s 28-7 win over Alabama in the 2025 SEC championship game.

This year, Georgia and Alabama are looking like College Football Playoff contenders. Georgia and Alabama have the two best scoring offenses in the country, and both are 5-0. GameDay will have an interview with Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and a special on star Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell. GameDay chose the Georgia-Alabama game over other quality Week 6 games including Oklahoma versus Texas, UCLA at Oregon and LSU versus Kentucky. GameDay announced former Alabama star quarterback Bryce Young, who plays for the Carolina Panthers, will be the guest picker on Saturday morning. Among the storylines to watch will be GameDay analyst and former Alabama coach Nick Saban returning to Alabama. Saban coached Young during his time at Alabama.
