Michigan Man Wins $200,000 Powerball Jackpot With Kids' Birthdays

A Michigan man from Commerce Township had the surprise of a lifetime when he discovered he had won $200,000 in the Powerball lottery. James Allen, 63, initially thought he had won $50,000, matching four white balls in the Dec. 30 drawing. However, he soon realized that the Power Play option had multiplied his winnings to $200,000.

Allen, a regular Powerball player, shared that he always chooses his kids’ birthdays as his lucky numbers. In this instance, his strategy proved successful, much to his delight. He purchased the winning ticket at Hoops Food, Sport, and Spirits, located at 2705 Lapeer Road in Auburn Hills.

Reflecting on the exciting moment, Allen said, “I checked my ticket and went to bed thinking I had won $50,000 because I forgot about the Powerplay add-on game. When I woke up in the morning, I checked again and realized I had actually won $200,000! Every time I play Powerball, I pick my kids’ birthdays. This time, it really paid off!”

The Powerball drawings take place thrice a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Players can buy their tickets for $2 at various retailers or online. Allen’s winning numbers were 10-11-19-26-27, with the Powerball number being 07.

As for his plans, Allen intends to use his windfall to pay off bills and settle financial obligations. Winning the $200,000 prize has provided him with a great sense of relief and gratitude.
