The Dallas Mavericks have secured the services of forward Naji Marshall, as confirmed by sources. Marshall is set to ink a three-year contract worth $27 million with the team, marking a significant move for Dallas.

Utilizing a substantial portion of their $12.9 million midlevel exception, the Mavericks are bringing Marshall on board. This signing effectively closes the door on the potential re-signing of free agent forward Derrick Jones Jr., whose future with the team is now uncertain.

GM Nico Harrison had prioritized retaining Jones before the free agency period, but complications arose due to Jones’ switch to representation under Klutch Sports, triggering a mandatory waiting period as per NBPA regulations.

The Mavericks’ hopes of retaining Jones and also acquiring Thompson seemed plausible until recent developments shifted their focus towards securing Marshall.

Marshall, aged 26, delivered solid numbers for the New Orleans Pelicans last season, with averages of 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists across 66 games. Notably, he showcased improved shooting percentages, hitting 46.3% overall and 38.7% from beyond the arc.

Known for his versatility and defensive contributions, Marshall’s addition to the Mavericks’ roster is expected to bolster the team’s depth and provide a boost on both ends of the floor.
