John Mulaney Talk Show Music Performances

NEW YORK, New York — John Mulaney is sharing his love of music through innovative performances on his talk show, Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, which has caught the attention of both audiences and music enthusiasts. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Mulaney expressedHis excitement about rehearsing music each week, saying, “There’s no part of the show and there’s no part of the week that’s as exciting as when we first rehearse music.”

Along with Kevin O’Donnell, the show’s music booker, Mulaney is curating musical acts that reflect his eclectic taste. Last season, the show featured iconic Los Angeles artists such as Los Lobos and Beck. This season, Mulaney and O’Donnell are bringing unique acts like Kim Gordon and Kim Deal to the stage, showcasing performances with an artistic flair designed for maximum visual impact. “You’re collaborating with people who are going to have strong and great visual ideas,” Mulaney noted.

The duo began booking artists last October, allowing them ample preparation time. O’Donnell described the process as allowing them to be “selective and choosy” with their choices. Each guest is also asked to add a song exclusively for the audience, enhancing the experience.

One standout feature of the show is the interaction of other guests during performances. Mulaney humorously pointed out that his friend Richard Kind is always a dancing presence on set. Despite their success, Mulaney admitted there have been hiccups, such as a near mix-up with a fake Bone Thugs manager. “In the Chinatown confusion of it all, many people have reached out saying they are the manager,” he shared.

With multiple shows remaining this season, Mulaney and O’Donnell are excited about upcoming artists and collaborations, including a performance from Yeule. However, Mulaney also had a note of advice for musicians: “I think you should be a little more nimble,” emphasizing that sharing equipment among performers creates a more streamlined look on stage.

As the season progresses, Mulaney and O’Donnell are dedicated to creating a show that feels unique and distinct from traditional late-night formats. They believe the blend of artistic collaboration and innovative stage design is key to making each performance a memorable experience.
