Marco Rubio Fox News Interview

ANKARA, Türkiye – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed key international issues in an interview with Sean Hannity on Thursday. During his appearance, Rubio focused on NATO contributions and the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Rubio stated that the upcoming NATO summit in six weeks will address member countries’ defense spending, highlighting that most nations are expected to meet or exceed the 2% GDP target. “Moreover, many will be over 4%,” he noted, adding that a goal of 5% over the next decade has been agreed upon. Rubio called this development a “historic moment” for the alliance.

During the interview, Rubio emphasized that NATO’s strength relies on the contributions of all members. He recalled the significant discussions at the 2018 NATO summit, which pushed members to increase their defense spending. “This will be the first time ever in NATO history where they have reached targets that allow NATO partners to be more than 50% of the alliance,” he remarked.

Addressing the situation in Iran, Rubio expressed concern over the country’s nuclear ambitions. He stated, “A regime like that can never have nuclear weapons, and the President has made it clear they will not have a nuclear weapon.” He urged Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to choose a path of peace and prosperity instead of pursuing weapons development.

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Rubio stressed the need for direct talks between former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He reiterated, “Nothing is going to happen until President Trump sits across the table from Vladimir Putin and puts it on the line.” He believed that without this engagement, the situation in Ukraine would remain unresolved.

As the U.S. navigates these critical international relationships, Rubio’s statements highlight ongoing challenges and the urgent need for diplomatic solutions.
