Brett Baty Mets Homer Pittsburgh

NEW YORK — The New York Mets secured a narrow 2-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night, thanks to a decisive seventh-inning home run from Brett Baty. This game showcased both teams’ ups and downs, with the Mets overcoming early struggles to maintain their position in the National League East.

Baty’s go-ahead solo home run came off Mitch Keller‘s changeup and marked his fifth of the season, providing a critical moment in a matchup where both pitchers delivered strong performances. The Mets are now 28-15 on the season.

Edwin Díaz earned his ninth save of the year with a tense ninth inning, managing to strand two runners after a fielding error by Francisco Lindor allowed the Pirates to threaten. Díaz struck out Bryan Reynolds and forced Joey Bart to ground out, sealing the win for the Mets.

Keller had a solid outing, allowing just two runs and five hits while striking out eight over seven innings. However, he was tagged with the loss, making it his fifth straight decision without a win.

The Pirates have struggled at the plate recently, failing to score more than four runs in 19 consecutive games, a franchise record. Center fielder Bryan Reynolds missed his third straight game due to lower back tightness.

The Mets scored first in the first inning when Juan Soto‘s single set up Brandon Nimmo‘s double that brought home the run. The Pirates managed to tie the game in the sixth with a bases-loaded walk but could not capitalize further.

Looking ahead, Mets pitcher Tylor Megill will face the Pirates again on Wednesday night, hoping to extend a three-game winning streak.

In a related move, the Mets also acquired left-handed pitcher José Castillo from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations earlier this week to bolster their bullpen.
