LOS ANGELES, CA — The action film ‘Ballerina‘ is projected to earn between $35 million and $40 million during its opening weekend, according to tracking reports released Thursday. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film is set to premiere in theaters on June 6, 2025, after a delay of one year from its original release date.

Starring Ana de Armas, ‘Ballerina’ features a cameo by Keanu Reeves, reprising his role as John Wick. Early audience metrics indicate that the film has strong appeal among men over 25, with high unaided awareness among this demographic. This follows the success of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘, which drew 48% of its audience from men in this age group.

‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ opened to a record $73.8 million in 2023 and boasted a 93% approval rating on PostTrak, showing significant diversity in its audience turnout. The film attracted 22% Latino and Hispanic, 21% Asian American, and 19% Black viewers. This successful track record positions ‘Ballerina’ favorably against previous entries in the franchise.

Comparatively, ‘Ballerina’ is anticipated to exceed the $30.2 million opening of ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’. Similar successful spinoffs like ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ opened in the $40 million range. Industry observers note that ‘Ballerina’s’ marketing campaign has been ramped up significantly since its thrilling footage was released in April.

The budget for ‘Ballerina’ is estimated between $80 million and $90 million, with Lionsgate utilizing international sales to help fund the project. The entire John Wick franchise has amassed over $1.03 billion at the global box office, solidifying its status as a lucrative action series.

As part of a competitive June movie schedule, ‘Ballerina’s’ release coincides with Focus Features‘ new Wes Anderson film, also debuting on June 6.
