Arizona Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll Home Run

Phoenix, Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-5 on Monday night at Chase Field, thanks to three home runs and a solid performance from starter Brandon Pfaadt. Corbin Carroll made a remarkable impact, leading the way with a league-leading 17th home run and a standout triple in the fourth inning.

Carroll crushed a triple on a 3-2 count against Dodgers pitcher Landon Knack, demonstrating impressive speed as he went from first to third in just under 11 seconds. This remarkable play helped propel the Diamondbacks to their commanding lead.

The first inning had the D-backs quickly taking an advantage, scoring two runs. They added another run in the third with a combination of small ball tactics, including a bloop double by Eugenio Suárez and an RBI ground out by Josh Naylor.

As Knack entered the game, the Diamondbacks capitalized on their opportunities, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring four runs in the third inning with two-run home runs from Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno. Moreno remarked on his success at the plate, saying, “I’ve been working a lot this year. Just looking to find my approach and timing.”

Despite a strong start, Pfaadt encountered challenges in the fourth inning, allowing a solo home run to Dodgers slugger Mookie Betts. Shohei Ohtani and Betts each added another home run, but Pfaadt still managed to earn a quality start, pitching five innings with two strikeouts and three homers allowed.

The Diamondbacks’ defensive efforts backed Pfaadt’s performance, with timely catches from players like Tim Tawa and solid plays from Suárez at third base. However, reliever Ryan Thompson struggled in the ninth, giving up runs that brought the Dodgers within reach, prompting manager Torey Lovullo to call in closer Shelby Miller.

Miller secured the victory by inducing a game-ending groundout. The Diamondbacks improved their record to 26-22, while the Dodgers fell to 29-19. Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m.
