Grateful Dead to Celebrate 60 Years with Concerts in Golden Gate Park

SAN FRANCISCO – The Grateful Dead, the iconic band rooted in the psychedelic era, is set to celebrate 60 years since its founding in 1965. The band will return to Golden Gate Park, a legendary performance venue, for three concerts on August 1, 2, and 3.
The concerts, featuring Dead & Company, a collective of original members and new musicians, will take place at the Polo Fields. This venue was a key site for free concerts in the late ’60s when the band and their peers captivated audiences.
Artist presale tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. PT on May 28, with the general on-sale set for May 30 at 10 a.m. PT. Prices for three-day tickets will start at $635, while single-day tickets will also be offered soon, starting at $245.
Current band members include guitarist Bob Weir, drummer Mickey Hart, lead guitarist John Mayer, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and drummer Jay Lane. The band’s original guitarist, Jerry Garcia, passed away in 1995. Drummer Bill Kreutzmann, 79, stepped back from performing earlier this year.
Opening acts for each night include Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, and the Trey Anastasio Band. According to promoters, VIP tickets will offer expedited entry, premium food, and exclusive viewing areas.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie announced the concerts as part of efforts to celebrate the city’s cultural heritage. “The Grateful Dead is embedded in San Francisco’s history,” Lurie said. “This is more than just a concert, it’s a San Francisco homecoming.”
A recent public forum by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission approved the event permits after hearing community comments. Some fans expressed concerns about ticket distribution and logistics, indicating a high demand for the shows.
Despite questions during the forum, the commission clarified they could not respond directly but confirmed the permits had been approved. “It’s official,” the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department announced online.
Dead & Company is currently performing in Las Vegas as part of an 18-show residency. Fans are eagerly awaiting concert details and ticket information for the upcoming San Francisco shows.
