Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, praised the border security measures included in the president’s proposed legislation, dubbed the ‘big beautiful bill,’ during an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

Homan highlighted improvements such as an enhanced border wall and resources aimed at relocating illegal migrants. He noted, ‘All those accessories on the border, we can lock it in to make it permanent.’ He reiterated that increasing the number of border walls and adding water buoys are crucial for saving lives, as these buoys discourage individuals from attempting to cross dangerous waters.

According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), apprehensions at the border declined 93% from April 2024 to April 2025 under the Trump administration. Homan claimed that the ‘big beautiful bill’ will strengthen the progress reflected in these numbers.

‘[The bill] is going to save lives,’ Homan said, emphasizing the addition of technology to the new border wall that the Biden administration had neglected. ‘It’s a smart wall that will alert us when someone approaches, climbs, or digs under it.’

Another key aspect of the proposed bill is its provision for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to secure additional beds for detained migrants. Homan explained, ‘Right now we’ve got 50,000 people in custody. We’re only funded for $34,000. ICE is already in a hole at $500 million. We need 100,000 beds. This bill does that.’

The ‘big beautiful bill’ encompasses more than just border security; it addresses tax policy, the debt limit, and defense spending. However, gaining legislative approval has been a challenge, with some House Republicans pushing for stricter measures like state and local tax (SALT) deduction caps and spending cuts.

During a recent visit to Capitol Hill, President Trump voiced his opposition to any cuts to Medicaid or SALT deduction caps to apply pressure for support of the bill. On the border security front, representatives from districts adjacent to the southern border expressed their backing of the legislation.

Congressman Darrell Issa, R-California, stated, ‘It may be a big and beautiful bill, but it has the muscle and backbone of historic border security and the ability to deport the millions of criminal illegals Joe Biden let walk into our country.’

Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas, who represents the largest border district in Congress, expressed his satisfaction with the bill’s provisions. ‘These are exactly the priorities I have fought tooth and nail for during the last four years, and I’m proud to see we’re finally getting it done,’ Gonzales explained. ‘My communities along the border will be much better off, and I’m proud to have played a key part in making that happen.’

Despite the optimism from some GOP members, sources within Capitol Hill indicate that significant hurdles remain before the legislation can be finalized and reach the president’s desk.
