Fujifilm Launches Unique X Half Camera for Vintage Photography Lovers

El Segundo, California — Fujifilm is set to release its latest compact camera, the X Half, in late June 2025. Designed for photography enthusiasts who appreciate a vintage aesthetic, this 18-megapixel, half-frame camera promises a unique shooting experience.
The X Half is distinct with its portrait-oriented sensor, viewfinder, and fixed 32mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens. Priced at $849.99, the camera emphasizes a nostalgic approach by omitting RAW photo capability, instead offering only JPGs. This aligns with Fujifilm’s goal of providing a more straightforward, analog-like experience.
Fujifilm’s interpretation of a half-frame differs from traditional definitions. Typically, half-frame film cameras capture images that measure 18mm x 24mm. However, the X Half uses a 1-inch-type sensor that measures 8.8mm x 13.3mm, which is roughly half the size of the APS-C sensors used in other Fujifilm models.
Available in silver, gray, and black, the X Half is designed for casual, fun photography. Weighing just 8.5 ounces (240 grams), it is compact enough to fit in small bags or even larger pockets. Unlike disposable cameras, it features a proper glass autofocusing lens and can record basic 1080 x 1440 video.
Photographers can use the traditional optical viewfinder or a 2.4-inch touchscreen to take pictures. An accompanying smartphone app, set to launch shortly after the camera, will enhance the shooting experience. Users can create diptychs, whether choosing two photos, two videos, or a combination of both.
The app incorporates various analog-inspired features, including a Film Camera Mode for organizing images into a contact sheet. Users can also apply filters that mimic light leaks or aging effects, all of which are permanently baked into the JPG files since the camera does not support RAW.
Fujifilm aims to attract younger photography enthusiasts drawn to the charm of vintage film. While some may question the $850 price point when compared to cheaper options, the X Half promises a satisfying experience for those ready to explore its unique photographic potential.
