REDMOND, Wash. (AP) — Xbox and Antstream Arcade have launched a new initiative called Retro Classics, offering more than 50 free classic games from Activision for Game Pass members. This program aims to enhance game preservation and backwards compatibility, allowing players to enjoy these nostalgic titles.

Titles available in the Retro Classics collection include iconic games like “Commando,” “Grand Prix,” and “Kaboom!” Players can access these games across various platforms, including Xbox consoles, the Xbox app on PC, supported LG and Samsung smart TVs, and Meta Quest headsets. To participate, users must download the collection through their Game Pass membership.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to making classic games accessible,” an Xbox spokesperson stated. Players can also engage with friends and others worldwide through unique challenges, as well as save and reload progress, a feature many classic titles have not offered before.

Looking ahead, Xbox plans to expand the collection with more titles from Activision and Blizzard, with the anticipation of adding over 100 games in total. This move is seen as a positive step for gamers who cherish retro games and want to experience them again.

By providing these classic games, Microsoft is reinforcing its dedication to diversifying its game library while celebrating gaming history.
