RABAT, MoroccoMaya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic are set to face off in the semifinal of the WTA Rabat on Friday, May 23. Both players reached this stage with impressive victories in their respective quarterfinal matches.

Joint, an Australian teenager, advanced with a dominant performance, defeating Ann Li of the United States 6-1, 6-1. The match lasted just 65 minutes, during which Joint hit 66% of her first serves and won 72% of her first serve points. She also managed to save five of the six breakpoints she faced. Throughout the tournament, Joint has not dropped a single set, having won earlier matches against Ana Konjuh and Katie Volynets.

With an overall record of 28-13 in 2025, Joint’s win in Rabat marks her first Tour-level semifinal appearance on clay. She is now 8-3 on the surface this season and is poised to achieve a top-70 ranking following the tournament.

On the other hand, Tomljanovic, currently ranked World No. 79, also showcased her skills by defeating Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. This match took 66 minutes, where she won 63% of her first serves and saved one of four breakpoints. Tomljanovic has faced some struggles in previous rounds, dropping a set in both of her earlier matches.

This will be the first meeting between Joint and Tomljanovic on the professional tour. Both players are closely ranked, with Joint sitting at 78th in the WTA rankings. While Tomljanovic brings more experience to the match, Joint has shown she is a formidable opponent, demonstrating fearlessness and skill.

Tomljanovic is looking for her second WTA semifinal of the season, and her first on clay, while Joint aims to continue her winning streak and make a statement in this all-Aussie clash.
