French Tennis Player Seeks Major Breakthrough at Roland-Garros

PARIS, France – French tennis player Luca Van Assche is gearing up for a pivotal match against Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov in the second round of the 2025 Roland-Garros tournament. The 21-year-old, currently ranked 179th in the world, won the junior tournament in 2021 and is looking to build on that success.
In the first round, Van Assche faced a challenging opponent, but managed to secure a victory in straight sets. “Playing against a French player is never easy, especially at Roland-Garros, with the crowd support,” he noted. Van Assche, who recently climbed to the 63rd spot in his ranking, reflected on his recent struggles with injuries, particularly a recurring pelvic issue. “I feel good now. I had a good tournament last week in Zagreb,” he said.
Set to compete on the Suzanne-Lenglen court, Van Assche faces Skatov, who has made it to the quarterfinals of four Challenger events this season. However, Roland-Garros has been a favorable venue for him in the past. “I often think about that junior victory in 2021. But I’ve had other memorable experiences here,” he shared.
Meanwhile, fellow French player Ugo Blanchet is also making headlines after defeating Cristian Garin in a tense matchup, gearing up to face Lukas Klein next. “I’m really proud of my performance today,” Blanchet commented. All eyes will be on these emerging talents as they strive to make a mark at one of tennis’s most prestigious tournaments.
