Chaos Erupts at South Carolina’s Black Bike Week Concert

Atlantic Beach, South Carolina – Several people were injured after fights broke out at the Black Bike Week concert on Saturday night. The chaos led to a stampede, resulting in at least 10 individuals being hospitalized.
Interim Town Manager Linda Cheatham announced that several injuries occurred due to panic near the concert area. “There were a couple of fights that broke out causing panic in the crowd, and several people were injured trying to leave the area,” Cheatham said.
Despite the disturbance, the music paused only briefly, and the festival continued until its scheduled closing time of 3 a.m. Amidst the large crowds, images shared on social media displayed a significant police presence.
Atlantic Beach Interim Police Chief Carlos Castillo stated that he could not release specific information but would answer questions later. Horry County Police reported a ‘mass casualty incident’ was under investigation.
Attendee Hilton Dewitt described the events leading to the stampede, saying an argument near Ocean Boulevard escalated around 1 a.m. and caused concert-goers to rush toward the stage. Following the incident, ambulances arrived, and police ultimately shut down the concert.
The Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival, commonly known as Black Bike Week, celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, anticipated to attract over 400,000 visitors. The event features meet and greets, parties, live music, and other entertainment.
