Oklahoma Women's Softball College World Series

OKLAHOMA CITY — The 2025 Women’s College World Series (WCWS) kicked off Thursday at Devon Park, with Oklahoma aiming for a record fifth consecutive national title. The Sooners, rated second, open their campaign against seventh-seeded Tennessee, which recently defeated Nebraska to advance.

Oklahoma, led by coach Patty Gasso, reached this stage after a successful run in the Norman Super Regional. The Sooners are vying for their ninth national title, having prevailed in six of the last eight tournaments. The field includes five teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC), emphasizing the league’s dominance as it welcomes Texas and Oklahoma this season.

In the opening matchups, third-seeded Florida faces sixth-seeded Texas, while ninth-seeded UCLA competes against unseeded Oregon. Texas Tech, also unseeded, is making its first appearance in the WCWS after beating Florida State.

Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens offers a formidable challenge, recently breaking the NCAA record for fastest pitch at 79.4 mph while leading her team through tough competition. Pickens’ performance will be crucial against an experienced Oklahoma lineup.

Oklahoma fans are excited about their team’s prospects as they aim to extend a remarkable legacy. Each match in the double-elimination bracket holds high stakes, culminating in a best-of-three final series set to begin on June 4.
