Lindor Powers Mets to Victory Over Rockies in Opener

QUEENS, New York — Francisco Lindor homered from both sides of the plate and made a spectacular catch to lead the New York Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Citi Field.
Lindor’s offensive performance started early. He hit a leadoff homer against Rockies starter Kyle Freeland in the first inning, setting the tone for the Mets. He added a crucial single in the third, which helped spark a two-run inning when Juan Soto drove him in with a double. Lindor capped off his standout night with a solo home run in the eighth inning, marking his 21st career multi-home run game.
David Peterson started on the mound for the Mets, delivering a solid outing. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run and striking out five batters. Peterson did not finish the sixth inning due to a two-out struggle but managed to hold off the Rockies for most of the game. Huascar Brazobán relieved him and safely navigated the tricky sixth inning with runners in scoring position.
The Rockies have struggled this season, now sitting at a dismal 9-48 record, historically the worst for any major league team after 57 games. They have now lost six straight games.
Sam Hilliard hit a pinch-hit home run for Colorado in the seventh, bringing the Rockies within one run at 3-2. However, Starling Marte had previously provided insurance with a solo homer in the fourth inning.
Mets closer Edwin Díaz continued his dominant form, striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth to secure his 12th save of the season. He has not allowed a hit since May 5 and remains perfect in save opportunities this year.
Looking ahead, the Mets will start Kodai Senga in the second game of the series on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. They are aiming to secure a series win against the struggling Rockies.
