Dodgers Gm Brandon Gomes Meeting

LOS ANGELES, CA — On Sunday, Jim Bowden, a sports analyst known for discussing trade rumors, engaged Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes in conversation about the team’s roster. Bowden highlighted potential areas for improvement, specifically mentioning third base and left field.

“Are there spots where the Dodgers can improve a little bit?” Bowden asked. He suggested players like Ryan McMahon and Luis Robert, questioning the performance of current players Max Muncy and Michael Conforto, who have struggled this season.

Gomes chuckled at the mention of trades but expressed optimism about Muncy and Conforto. He reassured fans by stating, “I think both of those guys are in a good position to continue to get back to what their historic performance is.” He pointed out that Muncy has recently improved, hitting well in the last month, and that Conforto has been hard at work aiming to turn his performance around.

Bowden’s comments resonated with fans expressing dissatisfaction with Muncy and Conforto, who have underperformed relative to their teammates. Gomes emphasized the importance of belief in players, noting that doubts about a player’s potential can hinder their improvement.

Interestingly, Muncy and Conforto both had strong performances in the Dodgers’ 9-5 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday. Each hit home runs, marking a positive turn in their gameplay. Muncy’s batting stats show a notable improvement, reaching .281 since May 7, although Conforto’s struggles continue with a batting average significantly lower at .172.

As the season progresses, Gomes indicated he will continue to give Conforto opportunities, affirming, “We fully expect him to return to what he’s done versus especially right-handed pitching historically.” Despite the struggles, it remains unclear how the team might adapt or address the left field position with players such as Andy Pages or Hyeseong Kim.

On Wednesday, both Muncy and Conforto did not start against left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard, hinting at a potential platoon strategy, though Gomes did not reference it explicitly. This decision suggests the Dodgers have alternative options within their organization to navigate their lineup without risking trades.
