Volkswagen Atlas Rearview Camera Recall

RESTON, Virginia — Volkswagen Group of America announced a recall affecting certain Atlas models due to a software error in the rearview camera system. The recall, issued on May 22, impacts the 2024-2025 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the software error may cause the rearview camera image to distort when the vehicle is in reverse. This distortion could obstruct the driver’s view of what’s behind the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a crash. The agency stated that the affected vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety requirements.

“A distorted rearview camera image can reduce the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” said the NHTSA in their report.

To address the issue, Volkswagen will provide a software update for the camera control unit at no charge to vehicle owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed by July 18. Owners can also reach out to Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 for further details. The recall identifier for this situation is 91SB.

Volkswagen has several dealerships in the St. Cloud area for affected owners seeking assistance.
