Avalanche Extend Brock Nelson’s Contract for Three More Years

DENVER, Colo. — The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday that they have signed forward Brock Nelson to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $7.5 million. This contract secures Nelson’s position with the team through the 2027-28 season.
Nelson, 33, joined the Avalanche on March 6, 2025, after being traded from the New York Islanders. The trade sent promising prospect Calum Ritchie along with a first-round pick in 2026 and a third-round pick in 2028 to New York in exchange for Nelson. Following the trade, he played 19 regular-season games for Colorado, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.
Despite not scoring in the playoffs against the Dallas Stars, Nelson contributed four assists during their seven-game series. With his experience as a perennial 20- to 30-goal scorer, he brings considerable skill to the team. He netted 26 goals in the 2024-25 season and has recorded 20 or more goals in nine of his 11 NHL seasons.
“We’re thrilled to have reached an agreement with Brock to keep him in Colorado for the next three seasons,” Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland said. “He brings professionalism and a dedicated work ethic on and off the ice. We think he’s a great fit and will be a stabilizing presence as our second-line center.”
Along with his impressive goal-scoring record, Nelson has made an All-Star appearance and played for Team USA in various international competitions. In his career, he has scored a total of 301 goals and 587 points in 920 regular-season games.
“My family and I are excited to be staying in Colorado,” Nelson stated. “We knew this was where we wanted to stay after getting the opportunity to play for the Avalanche.” He expressed gratitude to the team’s management for the support and emphasized the goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
