Superman Movie James Gunn Runtime

LOS ANGELES, CA — Director James Gunn confirmed that the runtime for the upcoming film “Superman” is two hours and nine minutes, including credits and post-credit scenes. Gunn made the announcement on Instagram Threads in response to a fan’s inquiry about the film’s length.

“Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes,” Gunn wrote, putting to rest speculation about the film’s duration.

Gunn also addressed rumors that Warner Bros. had pressured him to shorten the film. He firmly stated, “Zero truth to that,” emphasizing that as a DC Studios film, the studio would have no authority to influence its runtime. “They couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to,” he added.

Originally titled “Superman: Legacy,” the film features David Corenswet as Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane. The antagonist, Lex Luthor, is played by Nicholas Hoult. Other cast members include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

This film marks Gunn’s directorial debut as co-head of DC Studios and is the first Superman movie in over a decade. The last Superman installment was Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” released in 2013, which grossed $670 million globally.

Gunn has highlighted that his story will not retell Superman’s origin, acknowledging that superheroes are a recognized presence within the film’s universe. He aims to focus on the relationships between Clark, Lois, and Lex, rather than delve into lengthy backstories.

“It’s about these three characters,” Gunn said earlier this year, emphasizing the central narrative of the film.

Fans can look forward to the release of “Superman” in theaters on July 11.
