Aj Ferrari Wrestling Announcement

LINCOLN, Neb. – AJ Ferrari, a former national champion, announced on Saturday that he will transfer to the University of Nebraska and join the Cornhuskers wrestling team for the upcoming season. Ferrari, who won a national title at 197 pounds for Oklahoma State in 2021, previously wrestled for CSU-Bakersfield and finished last season with a remarkable 22-1 record, taking third place at the national championships.

Initially, Ferrari had announced plans to transfer to North Carolina, but those plans fell through. “We decided to part ways. Nothing but respect for Rob Koll and all the coaches there,” he shared during his Instagram live commitment announcement.

When discussing his weight class for the next season, Ferrari hinted at a potential move up to heavyweight, saying, “That’s between me and the coaching staff right now. I’m about 230 lbs right now.” With his considerable experience, he adds depth to a Nebraska team that finished second in the 2025 NCAA championships.

Ferrari’s career has been marked by controversy as well as achievement. He is known for his outspoken personality, engaging in rivalries, particularly with Penn State’s Carter Starocci. This adds an interesting dynamic as he joins a competitive Nebraska wrestling team that features returning All-Americans such as Jacob Van Dee and Brock Hardy.

Ferrari’s previous stint with Oklahoma State ended abruptly amid personal issues, but he found success at Cal State Bakersfield before re-entering the transfer portal. With Nebraska’s strong lineup, fans are excited to see where he will compete next season, especially as the dual meet schedule has yet to be announced.

Regardless of opinions about him, Ferrari’s talent and tenacity make him a compelling figure in the wrestling world.
