A'ja Wilson Wnba Concussion Protocol

Las Vegas, Nevada – A'ja Wilson, star center for the Las Vegas Aces, will not play in Friday night’s game against the Dallas Wings after being placed in concussion protocol, the team announced.

Wilson, who was injured during a game on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Sparks, was struck in the face while defending a drive by Sparks player Dearica Hamby. The injury occurred with just 1:17 left in the third quarter of the Aces’ 97-89 loss. After the collision, Wilson left the game and was seen bleeding from her head.

Aces head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that Wilson would see a doctor for further evaluation. After the assessment, she was placed in concussion protocol and must remain there for at least 48 hours.

Wilson’s absence is a significant setback for the Aces, who are currently struggling with a record of 4-4. The team heavily relies on her presence, as she leads in scoring, rebounding, and several other statistical categories. This season, she is averaging 20.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, maintaining a steady performance since the start of the season.

The Aces will also be without Wilson for their upcoming game on Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury, barring any significant changes in her condition. They face further challenges ahead, looking to turn their season around after their latest loss.

Meanwhile, the Wings are experiencing a rough season themselves, sitting at 1-10 and struggling to gain momentum, despite the return of prized #1 draft pick Paige Bueckers.

Tipoff for Friday’s game is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.
