Yankees Red Sox Game Highlights

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees dropped a tight game to the Boston Red Sox, losing 10-7 Saturday night in front of 47,020 fans at Yankee Stadium. Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough‘s struggles on the mound contributed to the team’s defeat, as he allowed eight runs in four innings.

Yarbrough entered the game with a solid performance record, going 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his previous five starts. However, this outing marked a significant downturn. “Not his sharpest today,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “He wasn’t getting to those spots on the plate with his different pitches.”

Jasson Dominguez, a rookie outfielder, managed to steal a base but went 0-for-4 at the plate, bringing his season batting average to .235 with six home runs and 25 RBIs over 55 games. The Yankees fought back in the eighth inning, pulling within one run but faltered in the ninth.

Trailing 8-5 entering the eighth, the Yankees threatened with runners on second and third with one out. Dominguez struck out, but DJ LeMahieu brought in two runs with a single, closing the gap to 8-7. Austin Wells, who had previously shone with a three-run homer and an RBI double, struck out, leaving a runner stranded.

Boone opted to send Ian Hamilton to the mound instead of Devin Williams for the ninth inning. Hamilton’s inexperience showed as he allowed a two-run single by Trevor Story, who had an impressive night with three hits and five RBIs, giving the Red Sox a comfortable lead.

The Red Sox initially took the lead in the second inning when Romy Gonzalez led off with a double and scored on Kristian Campbell’s single. Bellinger added another run with an infield single and stole third base, paving the way for Wells’ 10th home run of the season, which gave the Yankees a brief lead.

“I thought we had really good at-bats,” said LeMahieu, who went 2-for-3. “We executed the plan and just fell short today.”

As the Yankees look to rebound from this loss, they remain 39-24 for the season, and the team will seek adjustments before their next matchup against the Red Sox.
