Brush Fire in Bonsall Grows to 21 Acres, 10% Contained

BONSALL, Calif. — A brush fire known as the “Mission Fire” has burned 21 acres in Bonsall and is now 10 percent contained, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
The fire started shortly before 3 p.m. off South Mission Road, near La Canada Road. As flames quickly spread, authorities ordered evacuations for neighborhoods north of state Route 76, east of South Mission Road, and south of Via Monserate.
To assist evacuees, a temporary shelter has been set up at Riverview Church located at 4980 Sweetgrass Lane.
By 4:30 p.m., fire crews, including ground personnel and air tankers, successfully halted the spread of the fire, keeping it at 21 acres. Fortunately, no structural damage or injuries have been reported.
Cal Fire reported that by shortly before 6 p.m., crews had approximately 10 percent of the burn area surrounded with firebreaks, emphasizing their efforts to control the blaze.
