Astros’ Jeremy Peña Placed on Injured List for Season’s End

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Astros placed shortstop Jeremy Peña on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left oblique strain. Peña had missed the Astros’ last six games as a result of the injury, which has led to his exclusion from the season finale.
The announcement comes after Houston’s playoff hopes ended with their elimination following Saturday’s game. Peña will not participate in the final game of the 2025 MLB regular season.
In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled outfielder Jacob Melton from Triple-A Sugar Land. Despite Peña’s injury, the team has not indicated that it will impact his plans for the offseason.
Peña enjoyed a standout season, finishing with a career-high OPS, surpassing his previous best by 125 points. This performance highlighted his significant development during the season.
During the final day of the season, many players from playoff-bound teams rested, while injuries continued to affect others across the league. Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor, who had been sidelined with a groin injury, also did not play on September 28.
As the Astros prepare for the offseason, Peña’s recovery will be monitored closely, but for now, he will focus on healing and returning to form for next season.
