River Plate Secures Thiago Acosta with €100 Million Release Clause

Buenos Aires, Argentina — River Plate has extended the contract of promising young midfielder Thiago Acosta, today announcing a new release clause of €100 million. The contract will keep Acosta with the club until December 31, 2027.
River Plate, known for nurturing talent from its youth academy, continues to prioritize the retention of its best players. Acosta, currently wearing the number 10 jersey for the reserve team, has caught the attention of several clubs, prompting River to secure him with a hefty clause.
“We want to protect our young stars,” said a club spokesperson. “Thiago is one of the brightest prospects we have, and we believe in his potential to shine at the highest level.”
Acosta’s contract extension comes as River prepares to face Sarmiento de Junín in the 12th round of the Torneo Clausura. The scheduled kickoff time is 19:15 at the Estadio Más Monumental.
River has struggled recently, coming off a 2-1 loss against Rosario Central, which marked their fifth defeat in the last six matches. They are currently fourth in Zone B of the Torneo Clausura and desperately need a win to maintain a chance at qualifying for the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
River’s coach, Marcelo Gallardo, faces the challenge of fielding a competitive team as many players are on international duty. Despite this, Acosta is set to make his first start, offering a glimmer of hope for the Millonarios.
Sarmiento, sitting 10th in Zone B with 12 points, seeks to pull off a surprising victory at the Monumental to boost their playoff hopes. The match promises to be a crucial encounter for both teams.
As the teams take the pitch at the Estadio Más Monumental, all eyes will be on Thiago Acosta, as River Plate and Sarmiento battle for vital points in the league.
