VALENCIA, California – Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, sister-in-law of former U.S. Senator Mitt Romney, was found dead on Friday night in a parking garage in Valencia, a suburb north of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities received reports of a deceased person around 8:30 p.m. on October 10, in the 24500 block of Town Center Drive. Emergency responders reported that the woman may have fallen or jumped from a five-story parking structure, dying at the scene.

Officials with the medical examiner’s office confirmed her identity. The parking garage is located near the Hyatt Regency hotel and the Valencia Town Center shopping mall.

Investigators stated there is no suspicion of foul play in her death. As of Monday, the cause of death remains under active investigation, but police sources indicated initial findings suggest a fall.

Lieutenant Daniel Vizcarra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau confirmed the family’s relationship to Mitt Romney. “Her death is under investigation, but it appears to be a tragic accident,” he stated.

The Romney family is mourning this unexpected loss, and details about Carrie’s life or her final moments remain unclear as authorities continue to gather information.

The investigation is ongoing, and the community remembers Carrie as a beloved family member.
