Roki Sasaki Mlb Playoffs 2025

LOS ANGELES, California — Roki Sasaki has become an essential part of the Los Angeles Dodgers as they head into the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Once considered lost in his transition to Major League Baseball, the 23-year-old pitcher has evolved into a formidable closer after struggling with injuries and performance issues. Sasaki notably impressed during a critical Game 4 against the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series, delivering three perfect innings and showcasing his blazing fastball.

“One of the great all-time appearances out of the pen that I can remember,” manager Dave Roberts said about Sasaki’s performance.

Throughout the postseason, Sasaki has thrown 5 1/3 innings with a commanding presence on the mound. His fastball has frequently reached triple digits, with pinpoint accuracy that has dismantled opposing batters. “He goes down in the history books,” reliever Alex Vesia added.

Despite a rough start to the season, where Sasaki struggled with an aching shoulder and lacked velocity, he underwent a significant transformation. He spent time on a rehabilitation assignment in Oklahoma City before a breakthrough video session helped him regain his former self.

Sasaki initially faced setbacks, with an average fastball velocity in the mid-90s and struggles with command. However, after a rigorous evaluation by Dodgers’ staff, including pitching director Rob Hill, adjustments were made to correct his delivery and improve his velocity.

“I think that really helps with the off-speed,” Sasaki stated, reflecting on his newfound confidence after adjusting his mechanics. “I do really feel confident to be able to attack in the zone.”

As injuries plagued the Dodgers’ bullpen, the organization decided to utilize Sasaki in relief. This decision proved beneficial, allowing him to embrace his new role and elevate his performance. “His split’s as good as I’ve ever seen it right now,” said Galen Carr, Dodgers’ vice president of player personnel.

Sasaki’s transformation from an afterthought to a pivotal part of the team underscores his determination and talent as he prepares for the upcoming challenges. “It’s real,” teammate Kiké Hernández said. “He’s putting himself on the map.”
