Disney Channels Youtube Tv Contract News

LOS ANGELES, CA — YouTube TV has removed over 20 channels owned by Disney after the two companies failed to agree on a streaming contract. This blackout began at 11:59 p.m. ET on October 30, 2025, leaving subscribers without access to popular networks like ESPN, ABC, and FX.

In a statement, YouTube TV said, “Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to reach a fair deal, and starting today, Disney programming will not be available on YouTube TV.” The service mentioned that it would provide subscribers with a $20 credit if the content remains unavailable for an extended period.

Disney responded with frustration, claiming that YouTube’s refusal to pay fair rates was to blame for the loss of channels. In a memo, Disney executives Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro stated, “YouTube TV and its owner, Google, are not interested in achieving a fair deal with us. Their actions indicate how little regard they have for their customers.”

The negotiation breakdown has left subscribers concerned about losing access to college football and “Monday Night Football” programming. A YouTube TV blog post accused Disney of using threats of a blackout as a negotiating tactic.

YouTube TV has had recent troubles with contract negotiations, having negotiated deals with NBCUniversal and Fox earlier this month. CNBC reported that Disney had previously offered a distribution agreement that would give YouTube TV subscribers access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ without additional charges, which was rejected by YouTube.

Disney’s move to remove its channels from YouTube TV is part of a broader pattern of disputes with streaming services. Disney is said to be unwilling to share its streaming content with YouTube, leading to an ongoing standoff.
