Dog Rescued from Busy Boston Tunnel by State Police
BOSTON (AP) — A dog trotting through a busy Boston tunnel narrowly missed being hit by traffic before state police rescued the wrong-way rover on Thursday morning. Surveillance video from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shows the black-and-white pup heading toward oncoming vehicles in the Ted Williams Tunnel.
As cars and trucks swerved around the canine, it moved from the middle of the lane to the side wall to avoid oncoming traffic. The urgent scene was captured on a surveillance camera as rush hour traffic whizzed by.
In a later video, six state police vehicles parked in a staggered formation, creating a protective barrier. A trooper can be seen attempting to coax the dog towards him. Initially, the playful pup appears unsure and runs away from the officer.
However, after a moment of hesitation, the dog makes its way to the back seat of one of the cruisers and hops in, bringing a sigh of relief to the watching officers. A message was left with state police seeking further information about the incident and the dog’s well-being.
Chasing a dog on the highway is no small feat, but the quick actions of Massachusetts state police prevented a potential tragedy on a busy Boston roadway. The video has since gained attention online, showcasing the brave rescue efforts.
