Iowa City Man Arrested After Reports of Gunfire
IOWA CITY, Iowa — A 22-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting incident reported on Friday afternoon. The Iowa City Police responded to the 900 block of East College Street around 1:30 p.m. after witnesses reported hearing gunshots and that someone might have been shot in the chest.
When officers arrived, they found evidence confirming that shots had been fired. However, an investigation determined that no one was struck by gunfire. The police began gathering information and identified several people of interest.
On Saturday morning, the police announced the arrest of Xzavier Herman of Iowa City. He faces multiple charges, including Felon in Possession of a Firearm – Second Offense, Going Armed with Intent, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon.
Reports indicate that Herman had a verbal altercation with a victim, which escalated when he struck the victim in the back of the head with a handgun. Court documents reveal that Herman fired the weapon during the altercation, with the bullet later found lodged in a nearby building.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Iowa City Police Department or Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers.
