Oregon State Beavers Face Winless Sam Houston State in Crucial Game

Corvallis, Oregon — The Oregon State Beavers (2-7) aim for their third consecutive victory as they host the Sam Houston Bearkats (0-8) this Saturday at Reser Stadium. With the home game marking senior day, the Beavers hope to conclude their home schedule on a positive note.

Under interim head coach Robb Akey, Oregon State has turned a new leaf, achieving a 2-0 record since his appointment. Akey replaced Trent Bray and has already led the team to victories over FCS Lafayette and Washington State. Despite their earlier struggles and coaching changes, the Beavers still have a chance to finish the season with a 5-7 record.

Sam Houston enters the game seeking their first victory under new head coach Phil Longo. The Bearkats, who were once FCS national champions, have struggled in their current FBS season, losing every game by at least two touchdowns except for a narrow defeat to Jacksonville State.

Oregon State’s defense will focus on putting pressure on Sam Houston’s quarterback Hunter Watson, who has thrown for 1,100 yards and contributed seven touchdowns this season. The Beavers hope to replicate their defensive success from last week’s game, where they recorded six sacks.

On offense, Oregon State has found its rhythm with running back Anthony Hankerson, who rushed for five touchdowns over the last two games. Additionally, senior running back Elijiah Green of Sam Houston broke out in their previous game, rushing for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
