Syracuse Snowfall Forecast

Syracuse, N.Y. — A winter storm is expected to impact Central New York tonight and Tuesday, with a cold air blast moving over the Great Lakes. Residents in Syracuse and nearby areas could receive between three to seven inches of snow through early Wednesday.

The southwestern region of New York State and a section along the south shore of Lake Ontario may face even heavier snow, with totals reaching up to a foot. Strong winds accompanying the storm could result in low visibility and potentially slippery roads, particularly during the Tuesday morning commute.

The snow is anticipated to begin in Western New York early on Tuesday before advancing into Central New York by late afternoon. The storm is expected to persist throughout Tuesday, tapering off by Wednesday morning. The heaviest snowfall is forecast for Tuesday morning and early afternoon, marking the coldest weather of the season thus far.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s on Tuesday, accompanied by wind chills in the teens. A winter weather advisory has been issued for a dozen counties in Upstate New York. The advisory warns, “Several rounds of lake effect snow showers, wind and any heavier snow showers may reduce visibilities.” It also noted that while snow accumulations during the day will primarily affect grassy areas, slick spots could develop overnight or during heavier snow showers.

Residents are urged to drive cautiously and monitor local forecast updates as the storm progresses. Glenn Coin, a local weather reporter for syracuse.com and The Post-Standard, highlights the significant weather conditions expected over the coming days.
