Winter Weather Snow Southern Ohio West Virginia

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect overnight as a band of snow moves across the area. Southern Ohio and north central West Virginia are experiencing heavy snowfall, with accumulations exceeding three inches in some locations.

The snow will continue to push south through the night, although areas north of Interstate 64 are expected to clear up. Residents in the higher elevations may see additional snowfall, but those in lower areas might not witness any accumulation tonight.

Places like Summersville and Richwood are expected to receive between three to six inches of snow, as the mountains continue to accumulate snow. Dillon Gaudet, a weather forecaster, is tracking the conditions and highlighted the risk for black ice into Tuesday morning.

As the week progresses, high pressure systems will move back into the region, bringing warmer temperatures. By Sunday, temperatures could rise into the 60s ahead of a cold front. Rain is also expected for the weekend, following the initial winter weather.

The season’s first significant snowfall is prompting safety considerations for residents. Drivers are advised to remain cautious on the roads due to the potential for icy conditions.
