Marine Corps Birthday Celebration Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. — The Marine Corps celebrated its 250th birthday during a special ball in Folsom on November 10. This anniversary commemorates the establishment of the Continental Marines by a resolution drafted by John Adams in 1775.

The Folsom Marine Corps League hosted the birthday ball, which honored those who have served in the military and paid tribute to Marines who lost their lives in combat. Vietnam Marine veteran Benjamin Palacios attended the event with his wife and highlighted the significance of remembering the sacrifices made by Marines and their families. “We always need to remember to be thankful for those who have sacrificed both their families and the Marines, either their lives or their time and their effort,” said Palacios.

The celebration aimed to inspire younger generations to pursue service in the Marine Corps. Marissa Garcia, a participant in the Sacramento Young Marines program, expressed her motivation to follow in her sister’s footsteps, who is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. “The things that she’s doing right now really make me want to do it,” Garcia shared. “Seeing her do this and growing as a person.”

The evening included live music, raffles, and ceremonies honoring fallen Marines. A decorative cake rolled out to cheers from the attendees, who remarked that for many, this event is a bucket list experience. “This is kind of heartwarming to come here and see all this,” noted one participant.

In addition to celebrating the past, Monday night’s ball served as a fundraiser for the Marine Corps League, further supporting veterans and the community.
