Xiaomi Surpasses Tesla in China’s EV Sales for October 2025
Beijing, China – In a remarkable turnaround in the electric vehicle market, Xiaomi’s sales have overtaken Tesla’s in China for October 2025. This significant shift comes as Xiaomi sold 48,654 electric vehicles, driven largely by its popular YU7 SUV and SU7 sedan, while Tesla faced its lowest sales figures in three years within the Chinese market.
Xiaomi’s growth in electric vehicle sales demonstrates its effective production strategy, even as the overall auto market in China cools. The YU7 SUV has become a fan favorite, accounting for nearly 70% of the company’s deliveries in October. This model has quickly gained traction and provides strong competition against Tesla’s Model Y, marking Xiaomi’s successful entry into the EV sector since its launch in 2024.
In contrast, Tesla has struggled with an aging product lineup and less impactful price cuts, contributing to a slump in its retail sales in China. Furthermore, while its export volumes from China have increased, domestic sales are lagging. The overall EV market in China witnessed a slight decline in growth in October, partly due to the expiration of government subsidies and incentives, which have traditionally spurred sales.
Even leading competitor BYD reported a year-on-year decrease in sales, showcasing the evolving dynamics of competition. The rise of manufacturers like Xiaomi highlights the importance of innovation and production flexibility in the electric vehicle market.
The recent government data indicating Xiaomi’s strong performance has led to a spike in the company’s stock prices. Analysts continue to monitor how these developments will affect Tesla’s strategy moving forward in this competitive landscape.
