Rory Mcilroy Dp World Tour Championship

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The DP World Tour announced on Tuesday the creation of the Rory McIlroy Award, a new annual honor intended to recognize excellence in golf’s major championships.

This award will be granted to the DP World Tour member with the best performance across all four major championships each season. The first recipient will be announced in 2026, based on the most Race to Dubai points earned during these events.

McIlroy made history in April by becoming the first European golfer to achieve the Career Grand Slam after winning the Masters. In total, he is now one of only six players to win all four majors, joining the ranks of golf legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Describing the new accolade, McIlroy stated, “To have something named after you, that will be presented to future generations of players, is a huge honor and very humbling.” He expressed pride in his accomplishment and hopes his achievements inspire future members of the DP World Tour.

DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings emphasized the award’s significance, stating it commemorates McIlroy’s historic achievement as a soon-to-be permanent legacy for aspiring golfers. “We hope this inspires future generations of DP World Tour members aiming to follow in Rory’s footsteps on golf’s biggest stage,” he said.

During a press conference following the announcement, McIlroy shared that he was surprised when Kinnings proposed the award shortly after his Masters victory. He initially felt it was premature to name an award after himself but soon recognized its lasting value.

Interestingly, McIlroy will not be eligible to win the award, a decision he supports. “I thought it would be better if I wasn’t eligible for it,” he said. The award will instead recognize players aiming to emulate his major tournament successes.

As McIlroy prepares for the current DP World Tour Championship, he aims to secure a seventh Race to Dubai title, underscoring his ongoing commitment to excellence in the sport.
