Bruins Edge Senators 3-2 with Zacha’s OT Goal
OTTAWA, Ontario — The Boston Bruins extended their winning streak to five games with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Bruins began the game down 1-0 after Senators forward Michael Amadio netted a goal early in the first period. The Bruins bounced back in the second period, with Morgan Geekie tying the game before Sean Kuraly gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
Geekie scored just 90 seconds into the second period, redirecting a rebound from a shot by defenseman Andrew Peeke. Kuraly doubled up for the Bruins after receiving a pass from Tanner Jeannot, firing a wrist shot past Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Backed into a corner, Ottawa equalized with a goal by Claude Giroux midway through the third period, sending the game into overtime.
Bruins forward Pavel Zacha emerged as the hero, scoring the winning goal just 5.6 seconds into the overtime period. Zacha capitalized on a rebound from teammate Charlie McAvoy‘s shot, flicking the puck past Ullmark to seal the victory for Boston.
“It was a big team win,” Zacha said after the game. “We had everyone contributing, even when some guys went down with injuries.”
Bruins head coach Marco Sturm praised his players for their resilience and effort, noting that the team’s chemistry has been paramount during the winning streak. “Everyone knows what we expect from them, and they’re delivering,” he said.
Joonas Korpisalo was solid in goal for Boston, blocking 20 shots while showcasing his skills against his former team. “He was great,” Jeannot said. “It’s always nice to have a solid goaltender behind you.”
The Bruins, sporting a season record of 12-7-0, will look to continue their winning ways against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their next game on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Senators’ record now stands at 8-6-4.
