LSU Tigers Dominate Charlotte 49ers, 117-59, for Fourth Straight Win
BATON ROUGE, La. – The fifth-ranked LSU Tigers overpowered the Charlotte 49ers, 117-59, on Wednesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, marking their fourth consecutive win and improving their record to 4-0.
Sophomore Kate Koval posted her second consecutive double-double, contributing 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The team had seven players score in double figures, showcasing their offensive depth.
LSU’s scoring was led by junior MiLaysia Fulwiley, who recorded 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including five three-pointers. Fellow junior Mikaylah Williams added a season-high 18 points along with six rebounds and two assists.
“I feel like our team is definitely special with that,” Koval said about the team’s unselfish play. “Everybody gets a touch, and whether you double the post players, we’ve got amazing shooters.”
During the first quarter, LSU took control early, ending the period with a 36-12 lead. Fulwiley helped spark the offense, scoring nine points in the quarter.
The Tigers’ defense shined in the second quarter, holding Charlotte scoreless from the field on 17 attempts. The 49ers managed only five points through free throws, while LSU scored 26, extending its halftime lead to 62-17.
In the second half, LSU continued its scoring barrage, outpacing Charlotte 55-42. The Tigers shot 15-of-34 from the field and 24-of-29 from the free-throw line, finishing the game with 49.3% shooting overall.
Joyner scored 15 points in total, with a majority coming from the free-throw line where she went a perfect 7-for-7. “I can’t even think about if I’ve ever had balance like that,” said Coach Kim Mulkey, praising her team’s collective effort. “They’re all making me play them.”
Next, LSU will face Tulane in New Orleans on Monday, Nov. 17, with the game broadcast on ESPNU.
