Islanders Aim for Third Straight Win Against Golden Knights Tonight
LAS VEGAS, NV — The New York Islanders look to earn their third consecutive win when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights tonight at T-Mobile Arena at 10 PM EST. The Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime on Monday, giving them their second straight win.
Ilya Sorokin played a crucial role in the victory, making 33 saves. Head Coach Patrick Roy praised the team’s effort, especially after New Jersey tied the game with just five seconds remaining in regulation. The Islanders are currently 2-0-0 on their seven-game road trip, which matches their longest stretch this season.
The Islanders had a day off on Tuesday to travel and prepare for tonight’s matchup. Roy commented, “We worked on our system and got our legs moving after a long flight. It was a good practice out there today.”
The projected lineup for the Islanders includes Emil Heineman, Bo Horvat, and Kyle Palmieri leading the first line, while defenseman Adam Boqvist will see action for the first time since October 30.
The Islanders made a roster adjustment by recalling defenseman Scott Mayfield from the Bridgeport Islanders, while they await his return after missing time for personal reasons. Roy expressed confidence in Mayfield’s capabilities, saying, “Rocky said that [Mitchell] is their best defenseman right now. He deserves to be here, we’re happy for him.”
Tonight’s matchup marks the Golden Knights’ attempt to recover from a three-game losing streak, most recently losing 3-2 to the Florida Panthers. Currently, Vegas holds a 7-4-4 record and sits fifth in the Pacific Division.
The Knights managed only one win throughout their six-game homestand, with Jack Eichel leading the team with 22 points this season. Akira Schmid is expected to start in goal for the Knights, who have struggled recently with their power play and defensive consistency.
In their last meeting, the Islanders had a strong season against the Golden Knights, winning both encounters last year, including a 4-0 victory on the road.
With strong performances from both teams’ key players, tonight’s matchup in Las Vegas promises to be competitive.
