CLARKSVILLE, TN – State Rep. Jeff Burkhart, a longtime leader in Clarksville and dedicated public servant, died at age 63 on Friday morning at his home, family members confirmed.

Tributes poured in on social media following the announcement of his death. Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn expressed her sorrow, stating Burkhart was a good friend who was passionate about his work representing Montgomery County. “He loved representing Montgomery County and was fully dedicated to improving the lives of those he represented,” Blackburn said.

Burkhart, a Republican, served the Tennessee House for District 75, having been elected in 2022. The Tennessee House Republican Caucus released a statement honoring Burkhart’s legacy, praising his commitment to public service through his years with the Clarksville Fire Department and the City Council.

“Rep. Burkhart’s life of public service…reflected his unwavering commitment to community, faith, and the values that bring Tennesseans together,” the caucus said, highlighting his leadership in infrastructure, education, and public safety.

His fellow lawmakers, including Democratic Caucus Chairman John Ray Clemmons, acknowledged Burkhart’s impact on families in Montgomery County. “We’ve lost a beloved member of our legislative family,” Clemmons said. “He touched many lives with his service.”

Born Jeffery Darrell Burkhart, he was a lifelong resident of Clarksville. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1980 and earned an associate degree in Fire Science from Volunteer State Community College in 2014. Burkhart began his career at the Clarksville Gas and Water Department before joining the Fire Department in 1982, eventually becoming assistant fire chief.

Transitioning to the construction industry in 1985, Burkhart developed residential and commercial properties. He first entered politics by winning a seat on the Clarksville City Council in 2008 and was re-elected in 2012 and 2016.

Burkhart was an active member of Hilldale Church of Christ and is survived by his wife, Cindy Greene, and daughter, Meredith Grace Burkhart. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
