Sacramento State Vs Idaho Football

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State Hornets are set to host the Idaho Vandals tonight at 6 p.m. in their final home game of the season. The contest will be extra special as the Hornets honor 24 seniors who are playing their last game at Hornet Stadium.

Entering into Saturday night’s matchup, the Hornets carry positive momentum, boasting a record of 4–2 in Big Sky play and coming off two consecutive victories. Last week, they dominated Portland State with a score of 52–24, following a 35–13 win over Eastern Washington.

Among the seniors being recognized tonight, five players have spent their entire college careers with Sacramento State, contributing to conference titles and FCS playoff appearances. Most of the senior group has had academic success as well, with 15 already earning their bachelor’s degrees.

The Idaho Vandals, arriving with a 4–6 overall record and 2–4 in conference play, have faced challenges this season, including injuries to key players. Idaho is led by quarterback Joshua Wood, who has thrown for 1,663 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 443 yards and six touchdowns. Running back Elisha Cummings also poses a significant threat, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

For Sacramento State, running back Rodney Hammond Jr. has emerged as a standout player. Over the past two weeks, he has rushed for a total of 191 yards and two touchdowns against Portland State and had a career-best 208 yards against Eastern Washington, a performance that earned him Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors.

As the Hornets look for their third straight victory and the Vandals aim to finish strong, this matchup promises to be a thrilling contest in the Big Sky Conference.
