Canucks Face Panthers Tonight Amid Key Player Injuries
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Vancouver Canucks prepare to face the Florida Panthers tonight after splitting their last two games. The matchup is set for 7 p.m. ET at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, marking the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Canucks head coach Adam Foote revealed significant changes to the lineup due to injuries. Forward Conor Garland will miss tonight’s game after sustaining an injury during a fight last week. Starting goaltender Jiri Patera will make his debut for the Canucks in place of the injured Thatcher Demko, who is on injured reserve.
“Garland tweaked something,” Foote said. “We are hoping he’ll be back soon, but we’re not certain about the extent of his injury.”
Kiefer Sherwood, who leads the team with 12 goals this season, has been elevated to the top line in Garland’s absence. Patera last played in an NHL game on March 26, 2024, with the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Panthers, two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, are also dealing with injuries. Notably, Eetu Luostarinen is day-to-day and will not play tonight. Coach Paul Maurice mentioned that Sam Reinhart is set to play, bringing his scoring potential back into the lineup.
Reinhart, with 13 points so far this season, is crucial for the Panthers, especially in power play situations. His 19.6% shooting percentage indicates his ability to capitalize on scoring chances, vital now as Florida looks to maintain offensive pressure.
“Sam has been a key player for us, and we’re glad to have him,” Maurice stated. “His ability to find open lanes could make a difference in tonight’s game.”
The puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Canucks are seeking to minimize the impact of their recent injuries and build on their last victory over Tampa Bay.
