ORLANDO, Fla. — Franz Wagner led his team with a season-high 29 points during the Orlando Magic‘s 117-113 overtime loss to the Houston Rockets on Sunday night. The game took place at the Amway Center, and Wagner’s impressive performance included five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

This marks the third consecutive game in which Wagner has scored over 25 points. He is taking advantage of increased playing time while teammate Paolo Banchero recovers from a groin injury. Wagner is expected to continue his scoring streak in Tuesday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors.

“It feels good to be contributing like this, especially with Paolo out,” Wagner stated after the game. “I just want to help my team win.” His statistics so far this season include an average of 23.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists through the first 14 games.

Wagner’s performance comes at a crucial time for the Magic, who have faced challenges this season, including an inconsistent start that has placed pressure on their coaching staff and players. Orlando is currently 7-7, showing signs of improvement after a rough 1-4 start. “We’re starting to find our rhythm,” said Wagner. “It’s all about building momentum as the season goes on.”

The Magic are optimistic about their future with the addition of Desmond Bane, who has also made an impact on the team since joining from the Memphis Grizzlies. Bane scored 26 points in the same game and has been instrumental in providing the team with additional scoring options.

<p“Des has really opened things up for us,” Wagner noted, referencing Bane’s contributions. “His ability to shoot and create plays has helped relieve some pressure off me and Paolo.”

Despite the overtime loss, the team’s recent efforts suggest that they are moving in the right direction. With their next game against the Warriors, the Magic hope to leverage their growing teamwork and sharpened skills.
