Silver Spring’s Baba Oladotun to Announce College Choice
Silver Spring, Maryland — Baba Oladotun, a highly sought-after basketball prospect from James Hubert Blake High School, will announce his college decision on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The 6-foot-8 forward is currently ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the nation by ESPN.
Oladotun has narrowed his choices to four schools: Georgetown, Arkansas, Maryland, and Kentucky. He posted on social media, "God will make it obvious!!" along with a graphic featuring the logos of these prestigious programs. This announcement follows his decision to reclassify, allowing him to enter college a year early.
Born to a family deeply involved in education and athletics, Oladotun is expected to graduate this spring, turning 17 in December. His father, Ibrahim Oladotun, explained in September how Baba has always excelled in both academic and athletic settings, leading to the decision to reclassify. "We feel academically he’s already ahead, and since he’s going to graduate one year early, the best choice for him is to go to college," Ibrahim said.
Oladotun transferred to Blake High from DeMatha High in October 2023, citing a tedious commute as a factor for his change. Familiarity also played a role, as one of his sisters attended Blake. Since then, he has helped lead the Bengals to 40 wins in two seasons, with last year seeing the team just one win away from a state playoff berth.
In the 2024-25 season, Oladotun averaged 22.5 points per game, earning him a spot on the Washington Post All-Met First Team. As he considers his options, both Maryland and Arkansas seem to be strong contenders. Arkansas already has two ESPN 100 recruits in their incoming class, while Maryland has three commits, one of whom is top-50 recruit Kaden House.
As Oladotun prepares for his announcement, the basketball community watches eagerly, hoping to see where this up-and-coming star will take his talents next.
