Severe Weather Alerts Issued as Storm Hits California

LOS ANGELES, California — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued severe weather alerts for California as an atmospheric river approaches, bringing strong winds and heavy rain through the coming days. The storm is expected to significantly impact mountain areas and urban regions alike.

Forecasters predict that the Sierra Nevada will receive up to 18 inches of snow, while the Los Angeles Basin can expect 2 to 4 inches of rain. Wind gusts may reach as high as 60 mph, raising concerns about downed trees and power lines.

The Los Angeles County officials stated, “Residents in these areas should gather necessary items and be ready to evacuate if conditions worsen.” Affected areas include Canyon, Bethany, Eaton, Palisades, and several others.

The storm is expected to begin impacting California late Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall anticipated on Saturday. Emergency services are on high alert as conditions can rapidly deteriorate, particularly in areas affected by recent wildfires.

As the storm approaches, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has activated the city’s Emergency Operations Center, ensuring that necessary services and resources are in place. The city is also coordinating with agencies to assist those who may need shelter during the storm.
