Solar Stewardship Initiative Wind Energy Sustainability

BRUSSELS, Belgium – The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote sustainability and transparency in the renewable energy sector. The agreement comes as the world increases its reliance on renewable energy to combat climate change.

This partnership aims to establish responsible sourcing and production practices in the solar and wind energy industries, ensuring that growth in these sectors aligns with ethical and environmental standards. As both industries scale up to meet the rising global demand for renewable energy, maintaining high standards is crucial.

GWEC is launching the Wind Sustainability Initiative (WSI), which will be inspired by the SSI model and focus on creating industry-wide environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. The initiative seeks to align best practices and promote knowledge-sharing across the sector.

“We are committed to enhancing transparency and ensuring that our industries grow responsibly,” said a GWEC spokesperson. “This agreement will help mitigate risks associated with compliance and sanctions for our members and their projects.”

Through the MoU, the SSI and GWEC will collaborate on various projects aimed at supporting responsible growth. The organizations believe that fostering sustainable practices will pave the way for increased project financing and greater confidence for developers and utilities in expanding renewable energy initiatives.

“The renewable energy sector must not compromise on sustainability as we scale,” the SSI representative emphasized. “Our joint efforts are essential to uphold the social and environmental responsibilities we advocate.”
