Brian Battie Auburn Football Return

AUBURN, Alabama — For the first time in nearly two years, running back Brian Battie took to the field on game day at Auburn, receiving a heartfelt ovation from fans on Saturday, Nov. 22, just before the Tigers faced off against their rivals.

Battie was part of the program’s Senior Day festivities, which celebrated players in their final season. His return was especially poignant, as he is more than a year removed from a traumatic brain injury suffered during a tragic incident that took the life of his older brother, Tommie Battie IV.

The shooting occurred on May 18, 2024, in their hometown of Sarasota, Florida. Tommie was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. Brian was taken to the intensive care unit, where he underwent surgery that night. He was released from ICU on June 15, 2024, and showed remarkable progress, as he was able to walk with the help of a cane a month later.

Although the injury initially ended Battie’s playing career, he made notable appearances since, including last year’s Iron Bowl. He played just one season with the Tigers in 2023, participating in all 13 games and finishing the season with 227 yards and one rushing touchdown on 51 carries.

His return to the field symbolizes resilience and hope, as Battie overcomes the challenges brought on by his injury and personal loss.
